Each situation is unique, making a "standard price" impossible. However, as a general price structure our "average" price is approximately $125 per square foot (foil construction is assumed unless lead/brass is specifically requested). (To calculate square footage, multiply inch width x inch height and divide by 144.) Again, the price may be less or more, depending on the complexity of the panel. The actual/final price calculate we use is as follows:
Foil construction: $95 per square foot plus $1 per piece (on average, expect approximately 40 pieces per square foot. To compare with flat rate prices, ours would average between $100-$125 per foot).
Lead/brass construction: SPECIAL ORDER. Averages $150 per square foot plus $1.50 per piece
+Bevels, bevel clusters, or "exotic glass": Prices vary - visit our bevel pages
+Graphic design services for custom patterns: $35 per hour (minimum 1 hour; average 3-5 hours)
+Structural reinforcement for oversize (larger than 24")
+Shapes other than square or rectangle (circle, arch, octagon, etc)
Obviously, a window incorporating a zillion pieces will take our artisan longer than a window with a few larger pieces, therefore a highly complex window may also have additional fees applied. Please notify us of your timeframe and budget.
Measure the width and height of your desired window in inches.
Multiply width inches x height inches, then divide by 144 = this gives you your square footage.
Multiply your square footage by $95 (all our construction is now done in the foil technique. Lead or brass is special order.)
Count the number of pieces in the pattern you wish to have. Many of our pattern ideas list the approx. number of pieces. Add that number to the base price. This gives you an approximate window price (not including design time or extras). Again, average 40 pieces per foot.
Add in bevel prices (average $25 - $45 for bevel clusters; $1-$2 each for stock bevels - square, rectangle, diamonds, etc).
Additional fees may include: bevels, exotic glass, window shape other than square or rectangle, design time, reinforcement, framing and shipping. If you are looking at a completely custom window over 3 foot square, expect a custom design fee of approx. $100 - $250 - depending on the number of design hours and the number of changes. If you have an idea of what you want or you select a pre-existing pattern (versus us creating a completely custom one for you) the design fees may only be 1-2 hours. Once we receive a deposit, we will layout your design to scale using the glass colors you select to show an electronic example of your finished window for your review.

For etched glass, figure 75 cents per square inch as a general rule. Again, if the piece is complex it will require more time and work, therefore cost a little more. (Etched is a one-time surface etch.) Tempered glass must be etched - it cannot be carved or multi-stage etched.
For carved/multi-stage etched glass pieces, figure around $1 per inch. This is assuming 1/4" plate glass. There is an additional charge for thicker glass or for the tempering process after it has been carved (for safety glass ratings). Safety laminated glass is good for this when safety is a factor.

I tribute my success to my original stained glass teacher, Mrs. Beverly Akermark from Des Moines, Iowa in 1996, for teaching me that the only way to create a quality piece of stained glass is "perfection." When I thought it was good enough, she pushed me back to the grinder saying, "it's not good enough yet." She has changed my life and I will always thank her for teaching me the importance of perfection. Sandy
