Glass
Artisan,
Graphic & Website Designer
I fell in love with glass in the fall of 1996 after the death of my son.
At the time I owned one of the largest computer training facilities in Des
Moines. In an instant, my life totally changed and I couldn't
stand the thought of "Corporate America" anymore. Looking
back, I can now see that somehow, eventually your life's calling comes
out. It took this tragedy to change my direction and do what I was
called (and love) to do - glass. It originally was to be a hobby to release stress (after all, breaking
glass has got to be a great stress reliever, right?!), and it quickly
turned into a full-time passion and career. Using many of my
skills as a computer graphic designer, it was a natural and easy evolution
into a glass artist.
The colors of stained glass lift my spirits and I get great satisfaction
from creating custom pieces that can become your family's heirloom for
generations to come. I enjoy the process of creating everything from
three-dimensional home & garden decor items to custom cabinet door
panels and large stained glass panels. I like working within 1/16th of an inch
(or less) tolerance - most people consider that tedious - I find it
relaxing...I guess perfection is in my blood.
I appreciate creating custom orders - specify what design and colors you
want and I'll create a one-of-a-kind just for you.
I pour my heart, soul and love into each individually handcrafted piece.
When you purchase one of my pieces - know that it is 100% unique and
carries a piece of me (and usually some of my dna) with it.
I always say, "it was made with blood, sweat, and tears," the
first two are self explanatory, but it seems that when it's time for a
piece to go out, my eyes seep a little. I guess that's when I'm
really able to look at the completed piece and realize that I made it -
me. At that point I feel very humble.
From
the tragedy of loosing the most important thing to me and finding
out what life is really about, I dedicate my life to encouraging people to
follow their heart and do what they love...and following my own heart to
fill this world with as many beautiful things as possible. I
would love to add some inspiration and color into your life.
As far as my
portfolio, #1: you're looking at it (the website), #2: for my glass &
photography, look at the Sneak Peak pages and
in our Stained Glass Shopping Gallery
- most all of my work appears there, and #3: to get to know me and my
philosophies, check out our Words-to-live-by
pages - it's all there.
Our
studio is located on Highway 5 and Lake
Road 5-35 in downtown Sunrise Beach, Missouri on the west side of the Lake
of the Ozarks. Stop by to say hello and see the place where these items are created.
Thank you for the opportunity to make something special and
beautiful for you.
Sandy
PS
- I tribute my success to my original stained glass teacher, Mrs. Beverly
Akermark from Des Moines, Iowa in 1996, for teaching me that the
only way to create a quality piece of stained glass is
"perfection." When I thought it was good enough, she
pushed me back to the grinder saying, "it's not good enough
yet." She has changed my life and I will always thank her for
teaching me the importance of perfection.
